Open to all attendees to share their experiences concerning challenges impacting healthcare professionals in the Pharmacy sector. These interactive sessions will be moderated by a Pharmacy industry leader who will help guide the discussion. Proactive Approaches to Combatting Drug Shortages

Shortages of drugs have been an ongoing problem in the U.S. for more than a decade and were recently exacerbated by COVID-19, according to a report by the Senate Homeland Security Committee. The report found that there were 295 active pharmaceutical shortages in 2022 -- for medications to treat everything from asthma to ADHD to cancer -- in part because the U.S. depends on foreign manufacturers in nations like China and India for some of the active pharmaceutical ingredients necessary to give medications their desired effect.

IDN pharmacies are tasked with finding solutions to ensure their organization can deliver the highest quality of patient care in an efficient and effective manner. Join this panel of pharmacy executives as they share trends in drug shortages, success stories, and initiatives their organizations have implemented to combat this growing issue moving forward.

Progression of the Patient Journey: Hospital at Home (H@H)

As healthcare delivery evolves from an acute care setting to non-acute care to H@H, the pharmacist’s role also needs to remain at the forefront of direct patient care. IDNs need to integrate pharmacy leadership and workforce into planning, implementation, and patient care management for hospital-at-home services. CMS’s Acute Hospital Care at Home program allows eligible patients to be treated for acute illnesses in their homes, fostering a migration of clinical services outside of the walls of the hospital. More than 60 acute conditions such as heart failure, asthma, pneumonia, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) can be safely managed from a patient’s home with proper monitoring and treatment protocols. During this session, we will discuss eligibility requirements, patient monitoring, clinician support, and other aspects to implement a successful acute hospital care at home program.
